October Sales 2026 UK: What's Worth Buying Now and What to Leave Until Black Friday

Laptops, TVs, appliances and air fryers are seeing real price drops this October. Here's what to buy now, what to hold off on, and how to check a deal is genuine.

Published 1 October 2026 · PrimeVoucher Editorial

October used to be a quiet month for bargains. Not any more. With Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days landing on 6–7 October and rivals often running their own offers alongside, it's become a mini-Black Friday, and it arrives seven weeks early.

The catch is that a big red "% off" label doesn't prove much. Some of these discounts are real, some are barely there, and some products will probably be cheaper again in late November. Here's how to tell which is which.

What's happening in the October sales 2026?

The headline event is Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, running from 12:01am on Tuesday 6 October to 11:59pm on Wednesday 7 October 2026. According to Which?, it's open to Prime members only, which includes free-trial users. Other retailers often run competing offers across the same days, so it's worth comparing before you commit.

If you're not a member, a free 30-day trial gets you in, but Which? points out you'll need to cancel before it rolls into a paid plan (£8.99 a month at the time of writing). Set a reminder the day you sign up.

Beyond Amazon, plenty of the usual suspects run autumn promotions. You can browse current offers across all the stores on PrimeVoucher, and our guide to Prime Big Deal Days 2026 covers the Amazon side in more detail.

Which categories have real discounts right now?

Which? tracks actual prices over six months rather than trusting a retailer's "was" price, and its October round-up (published 1 October) flagged some notable drops. These are Which?'s figures, so check the current price before you buy, since deals move quickly:

  • Laptops: a Samsung Galaxy Book 4 was listed at £399, down from around £657.
  • TVs: an LG OLED48C56LB was listed at £679, down from around £1,055.
  • Tablets: Apple's 11-inch iPad was available from £399, which Which? described as its best price since 2022.
  • Washing machines: an LG model from £375, against a previous £557.
  • Dishwashers: an LG model at £469, compared with an average of £581.
  • Fridge freezers: a Hisense model at £265, from £340.
  • Air fryers: a Tefal Easy Fry at £79, against a usual £140.
  • Vacuum cleaners: a Dyson V15 at £469, compared with an average of £615.

The pattern is clear: October favours big-ticket tech and home appliances. These are products where a discount is measured in tens or hundreds of pounds, so checking is worth the effort.

Buy now or wait for Black Friday?

Black Friday 2026 falls on 27 November, so you're choosing between buying in early October and waiting about eight weeks. There's no universal answer, but a few rules of thumb help. The call here is our own judgement rather than a guarantee.

Good candidates to buy now

  • Something you need soon. A broken washing machine or dishwasher isn't worth waiting eight weeks for, especially when the price is already well below average.
  • Items at a record or near-record low. If a product is already at its lowest tracked price, waiting rarely gains much and risks stock running out.
  • Older models and last year's range. These tend to sit at steady discounts, with limited stock the main risk.

Better to hold off

  • Newly launched products. Brand-new releases rarely get deep cuts in their first weeks.
  • Anything where the "discount" is small. A saving of 5–10% in October might become 20% in late November, but it also might not. Track the price rather than guessing.
  • Christmas gifts you haven't decided on. Buying early for the sake of it is how people end up with returns in January.

If you're planning ahead, the UK sales calendar shows what's coming between now and January, and our September sales round-up shows how prices have moved since last month.

How to check an October deal is genuine

  1. Check the price history. Use a price tracker or compare the same item across retailers over several weeks. A "was £140" label means little if the product has sold at £90 for months.
  2. Compare the exact model number. Retailers sometimes sell near-identical models with slightly different specs under separate codes, which makes direct comparisons harder.
  3. Add delivery and returns. A cheaper headline price with paid delivery or a restrictive returns policy may cost more overall.
  4. Look for stacking options. A retailer's own sale price can sometimes be reduced further with a code, cashback or a student or NHS discount. Our guide on stacking discount codes and cashback explains what usually works and what doesn't.
  5. Beware of fake urgency. Countdown timers and "only 2 left" banners can push you into buying without comparing. If a deal's genuine, a few minutes of checking won't ruin it.

Smart ways to cut the price further

Even when a deal is good, it can often be better. Before you check out:

  • Search for a first-order discount if you haven't bought from the retailer before.
  • Check whether your student or teacher status or NHS discount unlocks extra savings on tech.
  • Look at store pages for current codes. Browse the PrimeVoucher categories to find offers by type of product.
  • Consider whether a refurbished version from a reputable seller does the job for less.

Don't forget the other October costs

This month brings clocks going back, Halloween, Diwali and Bonfire Night, all of which add spending. If you're budgeting for the season, our guides to Halloween 2026 and Bonfire Night on a budget can help keep the total in check.

Frequently asked questions

When is Amazon Prime Big Deal Days 2026?

From 12:01am on Tuesday 6 October to 11:59pm on Wednesday 7 October 2026, for Prime members only.

Do I need Prime to get October deals?

You need it for Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days offers. A free 30-day trial works, but cancel before it converts to a paid plan if you don't want to keep it. Other retailers' sales don't require a membership.

Are October deals as good as Black Friday?

Sometimes, particularly on appliances and tech where retailers want to get ahead. But Black Friday usually has a wider range of offers. Compare the current price against the price history before deciding.

What's best to buy in October?

According to Which?'s round-up, laptops, TVs, tablets, large appliances, air fryers and vacuum cleaners all showed meaningful drops.

How can I tell if a sale price is real?

Check how long the item has actually sold at the "before" price, compare the same model across retailers, and include delivery costs.

The bottom line

October's deals are worth a look if you need something big and the price is demonstrably low. For everything else, track the price and keep your powder dry for Black Friday.
